Vison paper
Reflection:
The artifact that I have decided to use for this standard is the Vision Paper. I created the Vision Paper during the summer of 2014 in ITEC 7410. The paper addresses my vision of technology in education and provides insight on many of the technology challenges faced in my school and school district. The recommendations concerning ways to respond to the challenges are supported by research based writings.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision states, “Candidates facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership.” This standard establishes the foundation for consistent technology use throughout a school/district. In the Vision Paper, I establish a technology vision and clearly define the roles and contributions of all stakeholders. Establishing the roles of each stakeholder ensures the technology vision of the school is supported. The role description provides each stakeholder with a clear blueprint of how his effort will support the vision.
From completing the Vision Paper, I learned how important every single person is in revolutionizing the culture of a school. The administrator is the driving force; however, it is impossible for him to do his job without the support of the teachers, parents, support staff, district staff, and community members. All stakeholders work together for the betterment of the children. I understood this in theory before completing this assignment; nonetheless, completing this assignment really help that concept to resonate with me.
The work that went into developing this artifact impacts staff development at my school by causing a vision statement to be developed with a specific technology focus. The Vision Paper provided my administrator with the ideal of a shared technology vision. In addition, it provided a blueprint for stakeholder support for the vision. Prior to the paper, technology was valued within our school culture. Nonetheless, the assignment helped to establish our commitment as a faculty to utilize it in more challenging ways beyond the routine skill and drill practice which had become customary.
