3.2 Managing Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: Multimedia Design Project
Reflection: The artifact that I have decided to use for this standard is the Multimedia Design Project. I created the Multimedia Design Project during the summer of 2013 in ITEC 7445. The project is a webquest about volcanoes. It is designed for a 5th grade science class.
Standard 3.2, Content Standards & Student Technology Standards states, “Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences.” This standard establishes the importance of digital tools being used and managed properly. In the Multimedia Design Project, I use Weebly to create a webquest that has a multitude of sites linked into it. Students are given a set of questions and they go to the sites to read and find the answers to the questions asked. Designing the webquest in this manner prevented students from wasting time searching through resources that did not contain the answers to the material or accidentally accessing inappropriate material.
From completing the Mulitmedia Design Project, I learned how important it is to organize your digital materials and resources during the planning process of lesson development. Not only do you need enough devices available with Internet use, your webquest needs to be well organized in order to prevent confusion. The better organized the teacher is beforehand, the smoother the lesson will go. In the future, the lesson could be extended by looking at which structures of volcanoes occur most frequently in a particular area.
The work that went into developing this artifact impacted student achievement. Student achievement was impacted by the materials being organized in a manner that was easy and safe to maneuver and time efficient for student use. Students were able to use technology to engaged into the content about volcanoes at a deeper level. Since the digital materials were well organize, little time was lost due to confusion.
