6.1 Continuous Learning
Candidates demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice. (PSC 6.1/ISTE 6a, 6b)
Artifact: Internet Tools
Reflection: The artifact that I have decided to use for this standard are the technology tools I have learned about through my experiences at Kennesaw State University. I began Kennesaw summer 2013. The tools I have learned about through my classes have been of enormous benefit to my students and colleagues.
Standard 6.1, Continuous Learning states, “Candidates demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice.” This standard addresses the importance of technology professionals staying abreast of current tools and trends in technology. Through my experiences at Kennesaw, I have learned how to create my own webquest through Weebly. That has to be the skill and tool that I have taught to others the most. In addition, I was exposed to Edmodo, Screencasting, Prezi, and Voicethread just to name a few of the tools.
From using these tools in my class and colleagues, I noticed a huge difference in my technology confidence. I do not get nervous at the thought of integrating technology into my classroom curriculum. Before beginning the ITEC program, I have very few tools to refer to when designing my lessons. Now, I have an arsenal of resources to use in my classroom and to share with others.
The assignment directly impacted professional learning. Technology is apart of our daily lives. In order to remain current in the teaching profession has to be embraced and not feared. Before starting the program, I only used technology for personal reasons such as communicating with friends and family through Facebook, checking my bank balance, or shopping/paying a bill online. I had earned my master’s online, but it was not in education. Although I was competent at using technology in my personal life, I was not competent or confident at using it professionally. The way to strengthen any weakness is to face it. My learning experiences at Kennesaw have provided me with numerous tools that I can readily use in my classroom. I am competent and confident with using technology in my classroom.
