Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC 1.3/ISTE 1c)
Artifact: Technology Integration Grant Proposal
Reflection: The artifact that I have decided to use for this standard is the Technology Integration Grant Proposal. I created the Technology Integration Grant Proposal during the summer of 2014 in ITEC 7410. The grant proposal is written to find funding to purchase e-readers for the classroom.
Standard 1.3, Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding states “Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation formal grant proposals.” This standard establishes the importance of a Technology Coach being able to find funding to support technology implementation. The grant proposal was written to support the use of e-readers being used in the classroom to encourage students’ interest in reading. E-readers have been found to have great success in improving students’ comprehension rates. In our school, 11% of students in grades 3-5 were proficient on the state assessment. Reading is a skill that is improved over time. The only way to become a better reader is to read more. The use of an e-reader is an excellent way to increase student access to reading materials at minimal cost.
From completing the Technology Integration Grant Proposal, I learned how important it is to be driven and self motivated when searching for funding. A Technology Coach must be competent in several skillsets. She must research and stay abreast of the most current trends in technology, have great people skills to get the support of teachers, and find funding sources to implement technology into the schools.
The work that went into developing this artifact impacts student achievement by providing a variety of reading selections for the classroom. Students become better readers when they read more. They will read more when books are available that capture their interests. Therefore, e-readers offer an opportunity to increase reading comprehension by providing students with a variety of reading materials at minimal cost.
