Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 6.2/ISTE 6c)
Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
The artifact that I have decided to use for this standard is the Weebly Blog created during my Ed.S. program. I began my program during the summer of 2013. After each ITEC course, we were required to complete a reflection entry about the course. The reflection is usually focused around what the class taught; therefore, if the class was about internet tools your reflection might be focused around the tool you found most interesting to use.
Standard 6.2, Reflection states, “Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences.” This standard addresses the importance of reflection for professional growth. In the Weebly Blog, I reflect about the various tools learned and discuss how I plan to use them in my teaching practice.
From creating the Weebly Blog, I learned how important reflection is, professional as well as personally. Reflection is a necessary component in order to evolve and become better. As a teacher, reflection is essential to my professional growth and necessary in order for me to meet the learning needs of children. The blog activity could be extended by having my students to blog about what they learned after each unit. That would be a great way to help students to become reflective in the learning process.
The assignment directly impacted professional learning. It directly impacted my professional learning because it caused me to analyze the material I had been exposed to and think of how I could use it in my classroom. Also, it impacted the professional learning at my school because I was able to share my newly acquired knowledge and skills. Maintaining the blog was essential in me becoming more reflective about my professional practice and learning experiences. In addition, it was very helpful in me taking ownership of my professional learning experiences. The impact can be assessed by reviewing lesson plans and observing how teachers use test data to drive the instruction in the classroom.
